Get involved by sponsoring and nominating an Educator (or several)!
Forest tours are the best way to show Idaho Educators the dynamics of the forest products industry and help them educate their students about forest resources and the future choices they will need to make. Sponsorships are $300 (registration fee) plus teacher travel costs. You may sponsor a specific educator from your local area or we can match you with an educator who wants to attend the tour. To be a sponsor, complete the attached form below by
3/30/08

Sustainable Forestry Tour Key Concepts
Foresters manage large landscapes over long time horizons - Nature is dynamic: everything is connected and constantly changing -Foresters can manage for the reoccurrence of desirable outcomes - Sustainable forestry integrates social, economic, and ecological needs - Regulations exist to protect water, air, soil, fish and wildlife - Incentives are better than regulations - Forestry is capital intensive - The highest technology is employed in the woods, mills and labs - There is complete utilization of the resource - We all need and use wood products - Wood is an environmentally sound building material - We can meet our material needs while protecting forest ecosystems - We all need to make informed choices - Educators have a special responsibility - The forest products industry is rich in career opportunities
Sponsor/Educator/Forester-A valuable partnership to go beyond the tour!
A local forester or other natural resource professional in your community may become involved in helping you find a teacher, and/or in keeping in touch with your educator beyond the tour. The educator will have both of you to come to with questions following the tour, and for additional resources to help teach their students about sustainable forestry.
